Week One – Progress Report for #LifeonBitcoin

It’s been over a week now. Progress is slow but steady. The good news is we’re not starving (yet).

We’ve found several restaurants that will accept bitcoin, and have been buying regularly from them for lunch and dinner. Bubba’s Firehouse BBQ in Salt Lake City already accepted bitcoin. To my knowledge, they’re the first in the state. El Azteca was the first in Provo (where we live). Then Sweeto Burrito, a new food truck, signed on. So, we’ve got plenty of meat. No shortage there.

For veggies and greens, we met up with La Nay Ferme, a local farm and CSA that was excited to take bitcoin. We’ve gotten radishes, cucumbers, arugula, and mixed greens. The produce is excellent, and is used by many of the best restaurants in our area.

But here is the nut we haven’t cracked yet: gas and basic groceries. We won’t starve, but after 3 months, we might get sick of BBQ and Mexican food. And we still need to get around. Austin’s truck is at half a tank, and Beccy’s car is at a quarter tank. Some friends at our wedding reception on Saturday bought and filled some gas cans for us (a very kind gift under the circumstances), but we need a breakthrough soon in the fuel department.

In all, things are going well. But our pantry and gas reserves are burning steady, and we’ll have to find a place to fill up… soon.

If you have warm leads for our area, let us know. And wish us luck.

-Austin
